The CB10/60-RS truck-mounted fire pump consists of a single-stage low-pressure centrifugal pump, a double-piston vacuum pump, an electromagnetic clutch automatic disengagement device, a speed increaser, an outlet pipeline and shut-off valve, and an inlet pipeline.

(1) Single-stage low-pressure centrifugal pump: Composed of a pump cover, pump casing, first-stage impeller, and pump shaft, it provides rated pressure and rated flow.

 

(2) Speed increaser: The speed increaser of the CB10/60-RS vehicle-mounted fire pump has a conventional speed increase ratio of 1.440.

 

(3) Double-piston vacuum pump: Mainly composed of a piston, pump casing, pump shaft, and eccentric wheel. The eccentric wheel is fitted with a piston guide rod and a pump casing steel sleeve. Inlet and outlet valves are installed at both ends of the piston pump. When the electromagnetic clutch engages, the piston pump starts working. During operation, the eccentric action of the eccentric wheel causes the piston to reciprocate, gradually expelling air from the pump and pipeline, thus improving air quality. A vacuum is created inside the cavity to achieve the purpose of water intake.

(4) Low-pressure water outlet pipeline and shut-off valve: Consists of a low-pressure water outlet check valve, left and right water outlet pipes, four water outlet pipes, and four water outlet shut-off valves.

 

(5) Rear-mounted water inlet pipeline: Consists of a four-way inlet pipe, an inlet filter screen, an external inlet connector, and on both sides of the four-way inlet pipe, the right side has an interface for installing a foam proportioner, and the left side is equipped with a rotatable rear inlet elbow, a 150mm butterfly valve, and a weldable flange.

Operation

1. Preparatory work before operation

(1) All drain valves on the pump must be closed;

(2) For foam fire trucks, the foam pipeline ball valve and foam proportioner must be closed;

(3) For foam fire trucks, the water injection ball valve of the foam proportioner on the right side of the outlet pipe must be closed;

(4) Close the water tank injection ball valve;

(5) Open the priming valve on the water pump inlet pipe;

 

2. Priming

When the water pump is pumping water, there are three different operating methods depending on the water source:

 

(1) Operation when supplying water from the tank:

Start the fire pump, open the butterfly valve on the water inlet pipeline from the tank to the pump, open the outlet ball valve, and adjust the hand throttle to adjust the pump speed to the required flow and pressure.

 

(2) Operation when supplying water from the fire hydrant:

① Take out the suction pipe (or hose, water collector) and the fire hydrant wrench.

 

② Connect the fire pump inlet to the fire hydrant using the suction pipe (or hose, water collector).

 

③ Use the hydrant wrench to open the hydrant valve, allowing water to flow into the pump. Start the fire pump, open the outlet ball valve, and adjust the hand throttle to adjust the pump speed to the required flow rate and pressure.

 

Note: When supplying water using the hydrant, the vacuum gauge switch must be turned off first; otherwise, the vacuum gauge will be damaged.

(3) Operation when drawing water from rivers, ponds, or wells:

① Remove the suction pipe, filter, and suction pipe wrench.

 

② Connect the suction pipe to a suitable length, install the filter at the end of the suction pipe, and install the other end of the suction pipe onto the fire pump inlet. Submerge the end with the filter installed into the water source.

 

Note: There must be no air leakage at any connection point of the suction pipe. The filter should be submerged in the water source at a distance of approximately 0.5 meters from the top of the filter to the water surface. Submerging it too shallowly will create vortices when pumping water, affecting the flow rate. However, it must not come into contact with riverbed sludge to prevent the intake of sludge and debris, which could clog the suction pipe and damage the fire pump. The rear inlet butterfly valve must be closed before priming.

③ Start the fire pump and turn on the priming device power switch. The electromagnetic clutch will engage. This will start the piston pump. Adjust the hand throttle to approximately 2500 rpm. The piston pump will quickly create a vacuum in the suction pipe and pump chamber, drawing water into the low-pressure stage impeller. The water pressure will then be directed to the priming device pressure switch at the outlet. When the outlet pressure reaches 0.2 MPa, the electromagnetic clutch will automatically disengage, the piston pump will stop, and the fire pump will begin discharging water. At this point, turn off the priming device power switch.

 

Note: When priming a low-pressure series fire pump, the pump speed should be controlled at approximately 2500 rpm.

 

④ Adjust the hand throttle to adjust the pump speed to the required flow rate and pressure.

 

Please note: When the water pump is supplying water normally, if an emergency occurs and it is necessary to temporarily close the outlet valve or cut off the water supply, the water pump speed should be reduced to the minimum speed at the same time, and the time should not be too long. Otherwise, if the water pump runs but does not supply water for too long, the water temperature inside the pump will rise rapidly, damaging the internal parts of the pump.

♦ Maintenance and Servicing

1. After using the water pump with seawater, excessively polluted water, corrosive water, or foamy mixtures, run it with clean water for at least 10 minutes to flush out residual liquid from the pump and pipelines.

 

2. After each use of the water pump, open all drain valves in the pump and pipelines to drain all remaining water. Then close all valves.

 

3. Check the gearbox oil level quarterly. If it is below the recommended level, top it up. Change the oil every two years.

 

Note: The gearbox oil grade is: No. 18 hypoid gear oil or 85W/90 medium-load gear oil.

 

4. If water fails to be drawn within the specified time, stop the piston pump and check all connections and valves for leaks. Eliminate any leaks before resuming operation.
